Help, New install XP Home formats partition etc. but at
the 1st reboot it just goes to device list screen
with "Press any key to boot from CD...." when I press a
key it starts to install from scratch again, I cant even
get at the product ID to get free support

After XP reboots, do not hit "any key" again. Setup will boot
from the CD automatically and continue with the installation.

Just guessing, but have you unplugged everything from your system before
starting the installation? Just keep the mouse, keyboard, speakers and
monitor plugged in. Unplug everything else. Just guessing at this, but
something might be mucking up the install from the hardware side.

Yes, that's as designed. You should not boot from the CD at this point.
Wait the few seconds, or remvoe the CD prior to the reboot; most of the
files are already copied.

.
No nothing happening at all, waited 30 minutes

You shouldn't have to wait more than a minute. Are you sure your system is
compatible?

Be sure that the system is set to boot from the hard disk at some point. It
is usually easy to turn this off in the BIOS.

Another approach is to boot with a w98 floppy or to the repair console from
the CD, and copy the \i386 folder from the CD to the hard disk. Then, boot
with a floppy - as long as the hard disk is FAT or FAT32 - and go to the
\i386 folder and run winnt.exe. remvoe the CD so it won't try to boot from
it.
