New Install vs. Upgrade

If I choose the new install option, does my entire computer get re-formatted
and therefore do I loose all the software and files on the computer?

A "New Installation" should only be selected if you intend
to reformat your drive or install Windows XP on a different
drive or partition. Reformatting your drive will wipe it clean
of all existing programs and files.

a new install will wipe evrything off your computer. the best thing you can
do is make sure you save absolutly everything onto floppy discs or cds or
even if you have one a pen drive, these can be really useful as you can store
anything on them from files to pictures even videos. i'm not really sure if
you choose upgrade if it will keep all your files or not. i would still make
a backup of everything on you computer to be on the safe side. by using
floppy disc, cds and pen drives, depending on how many files you have got.
