Steve

Greetings,
I have just built my first machine using an SATA hard disk... fast and
sweet, but there is no IDE hard disk. The SATA disk is named G: (Local
Disk) and it is causing errors in AVG and other programs that look for the
C: drive.

The G: drive letter is unchangeable since it is the system drive, so I
believe to correct this will require a reinstall of WinXP Pro SP2 - I have
disabled IDE Channel 0 in bios (after the install) so I don't know if this
will correct the problem in a reinstall.

Any hints to correct this before I waste the time of a reinstall?

Thanks,
steve

Start again with a fresh install by deleting all partitions during setup,
make sure there aren't any external drives, USB or any other type of
memory cards inserted whilst doing the installation.

Disconnect the memory card reader.

Thanks to both of you... I was about to do the reinstall (deleting all
partitions) AND disconnecting the usb card reader built into the floppy
drive.

Sucks a little, as I had already activated the install, but that's easy
enough to overcome.

steve

Thanks again, guys, for the assist... disconnected the usb card readers, ran
install (deleted the partitions) and re-installed. The SATA drive (system
drive) is now correctly designated C:

Have a great day!
