Hi All,

Ive built a new system and am having major probs installing
xp pro. I have tried from cd - the sewuence goes as far as
the 1st reboot but stops. it does reboot but thats it. The
sequence then starts to install again. Ive tried several
times with no joy.

Ive again tried using the boot discs but on the last
process the system crashes showing as blue screen of death.
im desperate to get this up and running.

If anyone can help id appreciate it.

You have some piece of incompatible hardware on your system.

Remove all hardware except.....

Hardware required to make system POST...

CPU, RAM, Graphics card, Motherboard (obviously), monitor

Hardware required for a minimal installation

CPU, RAM, Graphics card, Motherboard, Hard Drive, preferably a CD drive from
which to boot, monitor

Not needed until you have an installation of XP.....

Soundcard, NIC, 1394, USB, floppy drive etc etc etc.

Do the installation, then shut down the PC each time, adding one of the
extra cards until you find out which one is causing the problem.

Don't activate until you have installed as many of the hardware devices as
possible.

Hi, Daran.

The most obvious question is: WHICH BSOD? There are dozens of them and our
advice will depend on exactly which one you are seeing.

With Win2K, we often saw Stop 0x7B,

Hi, Daran.

That looks like a strong system. I've never had a Tyan MB but I've heard
good things about them. There are Usenet newsgroups for many mobo brands,
and I've received lots of help for my EPoX from the gurus at
alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.epox. I'll bet you could find some kindred souls
at alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.tyan, and some of them may be experts on your
board. Be sure to mention that you have two processors installed, AND a 160
GB HD.

You probably are aware of the need for 48-bit addressing for any HD larger
than about 137 GB, but you didn't even mention your large drive in your
earlier post. If not, ask Google about "big drives". And see these two
articles from about a year ago:
Big Drives

Live Large with Big Drives

In your next post, please answer my first question: Which BSOD? Give us at
least the Stop #, and the entire message with all the codes, if possible.
