I am currently building a second pc system for my kids (
to stop them blowing up mine! ) Can I use the OEM version
of XP as this is half the price of the full version. I
already have XP installed in this machine (Packard Bell i-
media 4716 - only H/Drive + cd roms remaining from
original pc. Surely all I need to do is tell the bios to
boot from cd and install? I do not need all the os
literature as I have been using this system for years.
Thanx
Paul

If you purchase an OEM version of XP along with certain pieces of
non-peripheral hardware (I *believe* that the items are CPU, motherboard and
hard drive, but I don't work for Microsoft and I'm not a lawyer) then you
can use the OEM software.

Note that one of the main differences between OEM and retail Windows is that
an OEM item is tied to the PC it was first installed on. You can't transfer
it to another PC or install it on more than one PC.

`bits` (mobo, processor etc.) from ebuyer, they have the
the OEM version and looks to be generic as they are not
selling it with regard to a specific manufacturer. I hope
I am making the right decision, but £68 is better than
£160 for the original. How does the old saying go? You
get what you p.......................?

EBUYER?! Are you mad?! Please see your email - I hope I can save you much
grief.
