New hard drives added but not showing

I have added a second hard drive & a removeable USB flash drive to my computer.

Both show as working properly in Device Manager, and also in Disk
Management. However, neither will show in My Computer, where I wish to access
them.

The jumpers are correct, the cables are correct & the Bios is correct.

Can anyone shed any light on this problem please?...
 
All hard drives when new must be initialised for a computer to be able to
access them for storage and retrieval of data.

The drives may be installed for use on a number of operating systems, hence
the initialisation is specific for yours: in this case XP.

You need to get into Disk Management and format the drive.
 
I am having the same problem with flash drives. After I loaded the latest
updates, I can no longer see my flash drive in My Computer. I can access the
files on the flash drives from Word, Excel, and other programs, but it does
not show up in My Computer or the Explorer Window. Why Not?
