I have XP Pro on a 60gb hard drive and I ran out of space. Purchased a new
300gb hard drive. I want to move the whole 60gb drive to the 300gb drive,
including XP. Will System Mover work? Do I have to go through an XP install
on the new drive first?

Your new drive should have come with cloning software if it was a retail box
drive.
If it was an OEM drive, there are several good programs such as BootIT
NG,Ghost,True Image,Drive Image,Partition Magic,etc that will allow you to
clone the drive.

It was a retail box, but no cloning software. Should I clone it outside of
XP by booting to the cloning software? Will I have to rebuild my install? I
had done something similar a year or so ago on another machine. XP saw them
as C: and D:. I cloned C to D, but when I disconnected C: XP wouldn't boot.
It seemed to have the drive id in the registry

Thanks for your advice!!!

Clone the drive by booting the cloning software
Hook up the new drive as primary master before cloning and the clone will be
bootable.

Whether you bought OEM or retail for the new drive...go to the HDD
manufacture's web site and download their disc utillity tool an
manual. They will have the program and an explaination on how to d
what you wish to do. The built in wizard that comes with the utillit
will walk you right through it
