Hi,
I was really proud of myself earlier today when I (first time ever!)
managed to remove an old hard drive and plug in a new one. Everything
looked fine until I closed up the thing, plugged everything back in, and
tried to turn it on. It goes directly to setup. The boot sequence does not
show a hard drive, just CD and floppy. I sure hope that this is some dumb
thing I forgot to do! Any suggestions? THANKS!!!

Have you installed an Operating System on the new drive ?? If not, put in
your Windows XP cd, and run the setup. You can then hook up the old hard
drive as a slave and copy any files you want off of it.

If the new hard drive is not showing in the BIOS (Setup), then you have
it installed incorrectly. Open up the computer - unplugged! - and
reseat the drive and power cables. Make sure you properly jumpered the
drive and have the cables connected correctly. If you bought the drive
retail, it will have come with a manual. If you bought white box or
don't have a manual, go to the drive mftr.'s website and there will be
jumpering information there.

You didn't tell us anything about your computer, so that's as specific
as I can get. For instance, if you tried to install a 300GB hard drive
in a machine that ran Windows 95-98 with a 150-watt power supply that
would also cause problems.

It can be very hard for a non-technical person to know what to include
in a post to a tech support newsgroup. Here is a link that will help
you with that - http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm

Then come back with all pertinent details for focused troubleshooting.
