Scenario: installed new hard drive, old one setup as slave, reinstalled O/S,
main id is Patrick (same as old one).

went to D: drive Docs&Settings/patrick... the folder is empty.... where
did his docs go?

This is usually a permissions problem although I would expect
an "Access denied" in such a case. Try seizing ownership of
the old folder. If this fails, restore the files from backup. You
did arrange for a full backup for your client, did you?

First idea - do a search on all drives for something like *.doc and see what
that finds.
Second idea - you do have a backup........don't you?

Thanks for the quick response
/ even with full ownership... folder is still empty
/ yes have a backup (altho wasn't expecting to use it since the original
drive was not altered)

/ could this have occurred because the old user was PATRICK and the new
install used the same (PATRICK) for the main ID?

No. When you installed Windows on the new disk then the
process paid no attention to the data on the old disk. There
was something else going on that is not apparent from your
post. Try some of the numerous undelete tools, and check
for hidden directories.

I hope the Scenario was: installed new hard drive, reinstalled O/S,
connected old drive as slave.
