i am facing this new kind of problem with my file sharing.
it's been there for a while but i have sorta ignored it all this while until
now that i really need it
The problem is:
I cant share any thing ( no files on my college network)
I ran the network wiz again, changed computer name, re started system. but i
still cannot share.

All i can do is right click and have an option where i cant tick the option.
I used to share somewhere six months ago, i dont know how this happened, the
file sharing just stopped.
i cant share (partial or full access)
please tell me what to do

Thanks!

I'd start by looking at "net config server" and "net config workstation", from
your computer.

And try CPSServ too, so we can look for a services problem.

And please, be more precise than "All i can do is right click and have an option
where i cant tick the option.". Remember, we're not there working with you.

Hey chuck,
sorry if i was vague, all i wanted to say was that the problem with the
sharing of folders isnt getting solved,
and how do i know that?
because when on a folder i right click i get the options sharing and
security, from where i can choose (by ticking in a box) in Network sharing
to "share this folder on the network" or "allow network users to change my
files".
However these boxes where i can choose on by ticking, do not allow me to
tick ( it looks how it would look in a hidden file). i could send a screen
shot but i cant attach any files here.

also you asked for more details which are as follows:

net config server

CPSServ ( i followed the instructions on your blog, i downloaded PS tools-
extracted them, made a cpsserv.cmd file everything was done in C:\utility,
but i dont follow what you meant by the code "#####", so i couldnt follow
step 3 that you have given here
http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/04/cpsserv-comprehensive-psservice-source.html)
However what i could do and find is below stated

C:\Documents and Settings\Mumu>cpsserv
'cpsserv' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

i hope that should suffice

OK, when you say
"where i can choose (by ticking in a box) in Network sharing to "share this

I would suspect that you are not logged in with an account that allows you to
make changes. Probably Simple File Sharing, and Guest permissions.

You're going to have to use the administrative account when logging in, as Guest
doesn't have the ability to make sharing changes.

If that doesn't help, then reread the CPSServ article, and hit F5 to get a new
copy. What you have above doesn't suffice.

I am logged into the administrative account,
can u please explain about the code?
i dont understand what code "#####" is ur blog talking about specifically in
point 3,
given here
http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/04/cpsserv-comprehensive-psservice-source.html

my system details are :
MS windows XP
Media Center Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

The article contains instructions, and code. You are instructed to copy the
code into a file, which you run as a .cmd (NT Batch program).

The problem is - how to distinguish between the instructions, and the code?

Instructions

##### Copy code below this line

Code

##### Copy code above this line

Please reload the article, then refresh its contents (Shift F5) to see the
changed content.

Identify the Code below.

* Look below, and find the first line "##### Start CPSServ Base Code".
* Look below, and find the second line "##### End CPSServ Base Code".
* The Code is everything BETWEEN those two lines

where is the code in between?
i refreshed ur blog several times, there is no code inbetween those lines.

i tried to run 'start CPSServ Base Code"
and got this
C:\Documents and Settings\Mumu>start CPSServ Base Code
The system cannot find the file CPSServ.

there is no code to be found, can you check the post again and re-load it

Chuck,
i saved the code in a file called "cpsserv.cmd", as type "All Files", into
C:\Utility
then i tried to Run it by Start - Run - "cpsserv".
it shows an error "windows cannot find the file cpsserv.. make sure u type
the name correctly..etc"
though i have typed the name correctly as "cpsserv"

is there any more advice you can give me?

look chuck i dont do this everyday
and yes i have read all the articles you cited, but i havent memorized it
and i shud'nt have to,
I do all that i can DIY,
and by the path value you mean
C:\Utility

then its that

otherwise i dont still undrstand by what you mean by Path and i definately
dont see any values.

PS the code you wrote in the article dsnt work !
the cpsserv shows me an error (did you take the time to think about that)
