I have been running ME for the 1.5 years that I've owned
my PC. I installed (new format) XP Home and have not
been able to get my new (less than 1.5 yrs) Epson Stylus
Color 740 Printer to be recognized by XP Home. I've
tried calling the OEM, they have not put drivers out for
XP, but suggested those put out for 2k; those didn't
work. I tried getting XP to build it's own drivers; that
also didn't work.
I'm desperate; any suggestions??

Hi,

Took me ages to get my parallel epson 850 printer working with xp fully and
finally to get status monitor 2 working.

For anyone whos trying, and is probably the same with any 1yr old+ printer
from epson that they've decided not to properly support with xp, just get
drivers and
epson status monitor 2 for windows 2000 and right click on the setup.exe
file. Set the compatibility mode to windows 2000 and it will install ok, and
will let u check inks and so on. The one I downloaded from epson's site "for
windows xp" just didnt work for some reason. Also dont use the standard
windows xp drivers, download the ones from the epson site and use those.

Regards,
Laurent

Windows natively supports the Epson Stylus Color 740. It just won't find it
as a plug and play device. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Printers
and Faxes, Add New Printer. Select LPT1 as the port and then select Epson
in the left column and then scroll down to the 740 (almost to the bottom of
the list) Should not have any problems with the driver. You will not have
access to the Status Monitor, but I have found many problems with Epson's
status monitor in the past.)
