Hello,

I posted my message before, but I can't find it -- so here it goes again!

The cable guy set up the Internet with MS Outlook. Initially, when I
received an email, I would hear a bell and see a little envelope on the
bottom of my screen. Now, however, I just see the envelope. (This happened
about an hour after he left.)

I checked the selections under "advanced email" in Tools, and all of the
options for alerting to new emails are checked. (I even unchecked and
rechecked some of them to see if they reset, but nothing helps.)

Any information anyone can give me will be appreciated. I have Windows XP,
with service pack 2, and Outlook 2003.

Go to Tools, Options, Others, Advanced Options, Reminder Options and browse
to whatever (bell) sound you like as an alarm sound.

Thanks Gee0!

I have another question. Sometimes the only way that I can get the new
emails to appear in the Inbox is to click on "Send/Receive on the toolbar. Is
this the way it's supposed to work, or do I need to make adjustments in order
to make the emails appear automatically?

Look at the bottom right hand corner of your Outlook and make sure that
you're not in Offline Mode. Make sure you are connected to your Exchange box
at all times.

Gee0,

I don't see anything that says "offline" at the bottom of my Outlook screen.
Also, now the bell isn't ringing anymore. (I have something called .wave
selected on my options.)

The mail is coming through okay. Could it be because I still have AOL
installed? (I planned on uninstalling it when I was sure that my cable
Internet connection is working.)

Gee0,

Thanks for your help and patience. Now the bell rang at the same time the
envelope appeared! I hope it continues to work!!

The OP said that "the cable guy" hooked him up to the Internet. He's
therefore a home user and doesn't have an Exchange server.

Tools>Options>Mail Setup>Send/Receive. Set a value in the "Schedule an
automatic send/receive" time field. Don't use anything less than about 10
minutes.
