New email notification and unread mail

System: XP/Outlook 2003
I have about 20 rules that redirect my incoming mail into my subfolders.
I’ve set up a rule that displays a new mail desktop alert no matter what.
Now, I would like to have an envelope in the system tray if there is still
anything unread – just like in the old version (I think OE works the same
way). Is it possible?

My experience is that, in all versions of Outlook (and OE, for that matter),
is that the new message icon gets turned off as soo as you read the first
unread message, regardless of how many unread messages remain. I have
tested this on Outlook 2000, 2002, and 2003 systems.
