I recently purchased an OEM copy of Windows XP Pro SP2 from NewEgg with
the option to upgrade to Vista Business when it comes out.

The XP Pro CD came with an upgrade redemption form but it indicates you
need to visit a website to redeem this.

http://upgradeweb.moduslink.com/vista

On that web site is a place for the serial number of a pc purchased
between 10/26/06 and 03/15/07.

I am unable to redeem this because I cannot provide this information.

I did purchase a new Thinkpad a month previous to this offer and this
was what I was planning to upgrade.

No where in the NewEgg ad was any indication that I would have to
purchase a new pc to redeem this offer.

Did I get taken?

New Egg reps tell me they will handle it with Microsoft but give me no
indication of how or where.

So if anyone knows about this please post.

Other beware.

this sounds like an issue between you and
the business.

Call your credit card company
and let them know you are going
to return the product and get
your account credited.

Why are you posting this here? It's between you and NewEgg. Cancel the
charge on your credit card. Return the product.

I bought the same OEM version of XP from NewEgg and just went to that
site to put in for the upgrade. I entered the Motherboard name/model and
the motherboard serial number that I also bought from NewEgg. It took
all that information and it went through without a problem. I got a
confirmation number within minutes. Why can't you enter the Thinkpad
serial number?

Sam it was not purchased between those dates of the offer it was just
before.

You have to send the recipt in with the certificate,
Otherwise I would try it

From the way I read it, it has to do with when you bought the XP
product, not the date of the machine you're installing it on. I sent in
the receipts for the XP purchase, not the motherboard.

Hmm, interesting

thanks will re read that

I can see that if a customer built his own PC, it would not
necessarily have a PC-Model or Serial Number. However,
I looked at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16832116171
and a NewEgg customer (FLA Tony on 11/27/2006) suggested this workaround:

"Coupon worked for me"

"I entered zeros for the model and serial number as a previous poster had suggested.
That guidance is even on the site. It states it will ship 4-6 after the beginning of January.
Shipping charges were not disclosed until the end."

And this posted by "Scorpiouscat" on 11/22/2006:
Ref:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/CustR...&SortField=0&SummaryType=ALL&Pagesize=&Page=2

"Windows Vista Redemption Deal"

"Pros: I just talked to Newegg via their Chat contact and they assured me that MS
would honor ALL Newegg Vista Coupons. MS is still having issues with their redemption website.

Cons: If you cannot get your coupon to redeem contact Newegg and they will help you.

Other Thoughts: Also, I confirmed that you do not need to buy a computer or anything else to
redeem the Vista Coupon. Only need to buy one of the qualifiying copies of Windows XP."

So, I assume that entering "zeros" for the PC-Model and Serial Number
would be OK if a customer does not have a PC-Model or Serial Number
to enter in the Windows Vista Upgrade form.
