I have installed a new NEC ND-35 series dvd burner in place of my old LG cd
burner in the e:drive slot. However, both my d: and e: drives are now missing
but re-appear when I put the old LG cd burner back in the PC. I'm using XP
Home Edition and am up todate with all updates.

I have read on here about checking your BIOS but I don't know how to do that?
I have also tried certain registry edits but they didn't work either so I
have rebooted the PC to the out of box state again.

Can anyone help?

Eddie,

First of all, try not to tinker with the registry one false move could put
you in a hole that you will not enjoy!

Your problem most likely is the jumpers on the back of the drive itself
where the ide ribbon cable plugs in. Looking at it from the back there will
be three columns of pins 2 a piece. One column will have a jumper block
connecting the two pins. You need to match this new drive the the way the
old drive was set with the jumper block on the same two pins as the old one.
If you need any further help let me know.

Good Luck
