New Desktop QFE Installer...

I have a question about the QFE Installer from the OEM
site. I have extracted the QFE with Winzip and there is
no repository with this package. There is a SLD. My
question is... Does this component have to already be in
the image to use the desktop QFE Installer? I have a
bunch of devices in the field already imaged, and I want
to be able to use the Desktop Installer on them. Is this
going to require me to re-image all of those machines or
can I push down a package to update my runtimes in the
field so they can use the Desktop Installer? If I can
push down a package what binaries and reg entries need to
be updated? From what I see in the QFE there is no info
on this.

The Desktop Installer QFE is nothing more that just a set of dependencies you have to satisfy in your image in order to use and
directly install on run time the new MS Desktop QFEs.

You can check if your already deployed image has all the dependencies that are brought up with the component (use the SLD).
If they are there, you may be able to run a Desktop update directly on your devices in the field.

Or, to save some time, you can try running a Desktop QFE on one of the devices right away. If it runs fine - you have likely
included all the required system components.

Also be aware that only Desktop updates released after May 11, 2004 are good to be launched with the QFE Desktop Installer.

probably be some binaries and reg entries that I will have
to track down to get it to work. I'll check out the SLD.
