Trying to create a VPN connection on a Windows Pro
machine, using "New Connection Wizard."

I launch the wizard, select "Next" and on the following
screen, where it asks "what do you want to do," I put a
check in the radio box next to "Connect to the network at
my workplace" and select the "Next" button. The following
screen is where I am having problems.

Both of the options on the screen where it asks "How do
you want to connect to the network at your workplace"
(Dial-up & VPN) are greyed out and not able to be selected!

Anyone have any ideas?

I am having exactly the same problem at the moment trying to set up a dial-up account with these options greyed out after re-installing windows (I had no internet connection problems before this). I have also tried resetting my internet connections using a service provider disc and using the data transfer wizard on XP to transfer over my settings from my laptop, to no avail. The modem is functioning fine and the driver is up-to-date. I would love to hear any suggestions as well

This can occur if the RAS services failed to start as expected. Please
check your eventlog to see if you are getting any errors related to RAS
services failing to start (these will generally be logged shortly after
starting or rebooting your machine).

Thanks for the lead! Both my "Remote Access Auto
Connection..." and "Remote Access Connection..." services
were disabled. I set them to Automatic and Voila!
Everything is working fine!
