new computer with Dell OS

After assembling my new machine, I tried to use a Dell XP disc, which I purchased from a vendor. Couldn't get the modem to install, so I reformatted, and installed my full XP version- which I use in my other computer. When it came to submitting the product ID no., I tied the Dell numbers, and was informed that they weren't valid. So I used my original numbers, and it works fine. Now I have 2 computers, 2 licenses, but wrong numbers. I want to straighten it out so I don't get into trouble. Any ideas? Could I reinstall the OS and use the Dell numbers now, and then activate?.

The Dell Product Key and CD will likely only work with your Dell
computer.
Contact Dell for support.

If the computer is not a Dell and you purchased the CD separately,
return the CD and Key to the vender or enjoy your coaster since it is
an illegal sale.

Greetings --

If that Dell CD did _not_ come with an entire Dell PC "attached,"
it's not a legitimate product. Report the vendor to your local law
enforcement agency, and then go buy a legitimate license from a
reputable retailer.
