I have a new laptop with XP and MS Office 2000 sp3. When I open tables (or
some other functions in Access), the hard drive light goes solid and the
computer sits there for five minutes before the table opens. I have another
couple computers, one with XP and one with W2K and both open the tables
instantly. One of the computers is an old 400 MHz PII.

Sounds like a memory issue, but the new laptop has 512 MB and task manager
shows only 173 MB is used. The old PC has only 128. The database is on the
server and all machines have a 100bps LAN connection. copying files over the
LAN is fast on the subject machine.

Since the DB is fine on the other PCs, I have to believe there is some issue
with the new laptop. Any ideas of what the problem is?

Thanks, BG

Since the database file is on the server, yu have to decide whether the
delay is caused locally or on the network. If you can, make a copy of the
..mdb file and put it on your laptop and try to open it here. If it is OK,
then it is obviously the network connection settings of your laptop causing
problem; otherwise, it is something wrong with your laptop.

DO YOU SPEAK FRENCH

i had a simular problem, but it turned out that the offending pc hard drive
was in need of defraging even though it had a 120gb hdd and only 15% used
after doing that it was fine
