new computer on network

alright lets see if i can explain this mess im in.i have just built a p4 system with windows xp,and have it for work,there are currently fifteen other computers on the network with different versions of windows from 98 to windows xp pro,im using pro as well,anyways the computer i built is to replace another one on the same network,i named it access 14 and made it part of the workgroup,i can access the internet but i dont see the two shared drives on the system in my computer,all the others have a drive k: and a drive m:,which reside on the server computer.how do i make the computer im running see those two drives and the other problem im having is i cant install any software off the network,it tells me path is not found.any help here would be greatly appreciated,im at a loss,and i have been trying to get this to work for two days(heavy sigh)by the way,the access14 is the name of the computer we took out to replace with the new on
 
Go to my network places navigate to the server find the
drive you need right click go to mapnetwork drive pick a
drive letter check reconnect at logon click ok. that drive
should now appear in my computer. If you are unable to
navigate to the server you may have a DNS issue with the
computer name. Either delete all the old entries for acess
14 in DNS or rename the computer
