What should I expect if I move the hard drive of my
current computer to a new system (HD, motherboard, CPU,
etc? I would expect to get a message about being unable
to validate the new hardware. Is this just a matter of
calling MS and entering codes they give me? I would ike
to reinstall XP Pro on the new hard drive. Any
suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Paul,

If your Windows XP is an OEM edition, then you may not move it to a new PC
period.

If it is a Retail version the you may be required to perform a repair
install by booting form the CD
Activation may then need to be performed over the telephone.
All of this is only for a Retail copy.

It is it is either a purchased OEM copy or one supplied with the original PC
then it may not be moved at all. That is one of the differentiators between
Retail and OEM and also is a reason for the price difference between the
two.

Mine is a retail upgrade version. What hours are the
phone activation available? I don't want to take mine
apart and not get the new one up quickly. Thanks.

In most countries - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year

Hi, I have a situation which is similar to earlier posts.
I bought a Retail Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade CDROM,
which I installed successfully. Now I am changing
motherboard,CPU to which I'm connecting the old HDD with
WindowsXP installed on it. WinXP doesn't start and I am
getting the error message "EULA is not found. Setup will
not continue" when I try to do a repair install. In
knowledgebase I found an article on this having to do
with FAT32 partitions not created under WinXP and that
the solution is to repartition the drive and re-install
XP! Will this even work since I have an Upgrade CD-ROM?
What is solution to make XP Retail Upgrade run on new
CPU/motherboard?
