Hi,

I bought a new computer - it came with the operating
system Windows XP Home Edition. I want to upgrade to the
Windows XP Pro Edition.

Can I just buy the Windows XP Pro Upgrade software at the
retail store and upgrade my computer. -- And if I do, will
all the programs that came with the pc still work
correctly?? I like the features of the Windows XP Pro and
would be better for my uses with the pc. -- than the Home
version. --

You know how it is-- these new pcs just come with the
restore cd .-- so if the programs get hosed -- I can't
reinstall the software individually. -- without restoring
the entire harddrive back to Windows XP Home edition. --

Please let me know. -- I don't want to try this -- if that
is what will happen. Just in case you needed to know -- I
bought a HP Pentium 4 computer -- it is only a day old.

Thanks for any help on this -- It would be greatly
appreicated.

What features of XP Pro do you think you'll like
that XP Home lacks? You can upgrade over your
XP Home installation, but you'll lose your HP
technical support.

If your a home user , I would stay with Home.
XP pro has only stuff you would need if
you where loging on to a domain, Not an ISP.

On the flip side, I got to check a network out
of a large cleaning firm, Thay got a ton on OEM PC's
all had XP home on them, But thay had a domian to logon to.
The network "Admin" had to reinstall windows 98 on the PCs
because thay have windows domain,
