old xp pro disk that i have loaded on the old computer (old computer
will not be used any more). i have a legal copy of window xp but it has oem
in the numbers so i can't use the tech help tools, unless i pay 35 more
dollers :-(

No, you may not. Perhaps the biggest disadvatage of an OEM version is that
its license ties it permanently to the first computer it's installed on. It
can never legally be moved to another computer, sold, or given away. This is
the main reason OEM versions are cheaper than Full Retail editions.

If, after you install the OS it will not activate over the internet, then
simply call MS and explain the situation to them and give them your old
Product Key and they will help. They aren't the big mean ogre's so many make
them out to be. TTFN.

That is *not* correct. They would do that for a retail version, but not for
an OEM version, which this is.

Based on your own admission, you have an OEM license for WinXP on that
computer. An OEM version must be sold with a non-peripheral piece of
hardware (normally a motherboard or hard rive, if not an entire PC) and
is _permanently_ bound to the first computer on which it's installed.
An OEM license, once installed, is not legitimately transferable to
another computer under _any_ circumstances.

If the guy bought the disc..... why can't he used it....?

The only thing you will not be able to get access to are M
Updates.... look at the problems they cause. Outlook and Explode
are not the only pebble on the beach, it is these that consumes th
patches....

With a new OS coming out MS would certainly love you to buy an ol
flawed OS down to the last minut

Are there really not to be used afte
dates on the software. Why is there s
much snootiness from MS..

Legally, you aren't supposed to do it. Technically, if it's been over
120 days since the copy of XP has been activated, no one will be the
wiser except you and it will activate on line no problem. If it's been
less than 120 days, tell the phone activator that you've upgraded some
hardware.

The OS isn't flawed. Internet Explorer is.

Use anything but Exploder and Outlook and forget all the MS updates
look at all the problems that has arisen, stick to Sp1/Sp2

There are many alternatives to Outlook and Exploder which are the
main bug bearers for patches

How do you explain the fact that I have never had problems with either
since 97? Maybe you should learn how to do things rather than cat call
from the sidelines.

So? All software requires patches.
And further,
I can be on Exploder 10 minutes and get around 120 cookies,

I guess you've never heard of Spybot or Spywareblaster.
I can be
on Mozilla all day and get no more than about 15....!

I guess you don't know how to use Firefox. For paranoids like you,
Firefox can be configured to dump all cookies, cache, etc. just by
closing it.

Did I say that - I don't think so

Now that is news, I learn something every day

I have heard of Spybot, Lavasoft's Adaware & Spyware Blaster,
do think I have heard of Symantec...! Ah yes, thats the one that'
suppose to be secure isn't it..? The one that needs patching, now i
that ain't Software then what is it....

Oh, and I have heard of Privacy Guardian because I use it, and for
fact Mozilla can be configured not to clean on shut down, also yo
don't have to close Mozilla for Privacy Guardian to work and i
tell's you what it clean's

Nor did I say I had trouble with Exploder.... Sorry to OP but had t
reply to Alias....
