Just purchased a Presario SR1020NX
I was told it had MS Word. After I started the
computer , I found it was only a 60 day trial version!
Is this normal? Now I have to spend more money?
Here is my problem, I scanned in a document, a form
actually. I wanted to be able to insert info into the
form and then print it out. I scanned it, view it, but
it wont let me edit I thought I could just start
typing, but I can't do it in MS Word, the trial version
was supossed to be fully funtional. It was preloaded.
I also tried it in MS Works 7.
I also went to the MS tools option, ckicked on document
scanner. It started to install it and then asked for the
MS Word 2003 disc. Of course it was not in the box.
Compac has been no help.
Any ideas?
Thanks

For less than $100 (and less still after the $15 rebate), you can upgrade
from Works 7 to Works Suite 2004, which includes Word 2002. See

In order to install additional functions in Word you need the disc. Many PC
suppliers provide trial versions of Word - whether you were led to believe
different is something you need to take up with your supplier.

The document scanning function in Word is rudimentary and unlikely to give
you an editable form that bears any resemblance to the original. You can do
this with a fully functional OCR application - in particular the corporate
version of Finereader 6 has a form filling option that works well.
Finereader is now at version 7.

For a one-off form, use the graphic image as a page backround and build the
form over the top using a table.

Besides the fact that Compaq sucks (product _and_ customer servic
wise), you have another problem -- does your scanner software have OCR
When you scan a document it is stored on your computer as a "picture."
OCR software -recognizes- the characters and turns them into editabl
text (which you can then open in Word or Works, or even Notepad

Hey, I hope this helps. i just purchased a SR1020NX as well, and ran
into the same problem. Did you activate it by finding the key code on
the back of the Microsoft Works and Money 2004 envelope?. Don't know
if you purchased this at a Best Buy or not, but if you did this is
where you can find the Key Code. let me know if this helps.

Chris~
