I have a Sony Vaio computer. My cd-rw wouldn't write so Best Buy installed a new one, a Memorex Ultraspeed CD recorder with Nero5 software. XP doesn't recognize it as a CD_RW but only as a CD-Rom. Did they install it incorrectly, or is there some adjustment that has to be made. Also while Nero Burn shows in add/remove as a program, I can't find it anywhere.

Check the properties of the CD Burner drive and click on the recording tab. If
the check mark to enable recording is checked, uncheck it and hit apply and then
recheck it and hit apply.

If not check this site out:

Hi Joe, sorry it didn't help. Perhaps it's time to take
it all back to the shop and get the people who installed
it to make it work. Perhaps a different brand of cd
burner.

Thanks for your reply. The recording tab is there. If I
disable it, I get a message G Drive not accessible. If I
enable it , it tries to write but then a message comes up
that it cannot complete writing to the disc. I checked
the site you noted it deals with situation where
recording tab not there. Nonetheless, I checked the
registry and the CD-Rom drive has a value of 3 non-
recordable and the new memorex has a value of 2
recordable. Device mamager however shoas Cd-Roms. I tried
updating the driver using the installation disc but it
said I have the best driver. I'm stumped.
