Hello all,

I am running a small network with XP home edition (3) and
a win2k server. I also have a DSL connection and have a
Linksys router and this router assigns IP address to the
XPs the server has a static IP address 192.168.1.20

The router is the gateway to all the PCs and server and
its IP is 192.168.1.1 on subnet 255.255.255.0

Two of the XP homes were properly assigned IP addresses
of 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.106 The 3rd PC however can
never get the right IP address it kept showing
169.254.191.103 with a subnet of 255.255.0.0

I have uninstalled the network card and reinstalled it,
and this particular PC has not gotten the right IP
address.

Can someone please tell me how to combat this problem.

Thanks in advance

The 169.254.x.x address indicates that your computer is not making a
connection with the router. Check all connections. Try changing the
ethernet cable with a known good one. Try changing the port on the router
that the cable is plugged into.
