Networking XP with existing home network

I've just bought a new PC with winXP pro on it and I am unclear how to get
it connected to an existing (home) network.. I run win98SE on the one I use
to connect to internet (broadband - so thats a network connection to a
'modem'.) and winME on another...All PC's are connected to the default
mshome network and its fully shared and works great..
My experience of XP is limited- only had it 1 day- but I found I can't use
the networking disc I made on win98SE.. I get the feeling I have to create a
networking disc on winXP and then run it on all the rest of the PC's but I'm
reluctant to do this without confirmation , as I don't want to mess up the
existing networking.

Anyone point me to a site with details of WinXP-WinME-Win98SE networking, or
confirm that above is right- what snags can I run into?

Forget that -- just found the problem--- seems I have the 'wrong' lead...
After I sent the help message, it struck me that the light on the 'hub'
wasn't on- so I swopped the network lead with one I know was working and it
worked all along. I had got it right, but I overlooked the lead..
