I am working on a network that consists of 3 98 PC's and one XP laptop.
Previously there was an additional XP desktop. At that time the network was
up and running great, but the XP desktop crashed. Now only one 98 desktop
communicates with the laptop XP. The other two desktops 98, talk to each
other.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If 'communicate' means browsing - Win98 is notorious for refusing to accept
defeat in master browser elections with other Windows versions. So,
possibly your situation results from a browser election conflict. Try this:

On the laptop, go to Administrative Tools and open the Services applet.
Double click on Computer Browser and change the setting from Automatic to
Manual. Reboot all computers.

Doug,

I'm not at the network right now, but I figured I should give you a little
more detail. I created a new network with a new name - all the computers are
on that network. When viewing the entire network on either of the two 98
desktops, they only see each other on the network, they don't see the other
two computers. It is the same with the laptop and the other 98 desktop, they
see each other but not the two 98 desktops. Both sections can browse their
connected computers without a problem.

I set the browser to manual, and rebooted all the computers. The XP computer
couldn't see the network at all. Everything else stayed the same. None of
them saw the XP.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Liz
