Networking without internet connection

Hello,

I hope someone can help me with my question. I would like to network two XP
computers, neither of which is connected to the internet. In my experience,
when connecting a hub or router it requires connecting to the internet. When
using the network wizard it also looks for a shared connection. Is there a
way to network without an internet connection? This is being done only to
share files in a business situation. Any help on this matter would be
greatly appreciated.

You don't need to have an Internet connection to make a local area
network. If you are only going to have the two computers, then connect
them with a crossover ethernet cable - nic to nic. Assign static IP
addresses like 192.168.0.10 and 192.168.0.12. Create identical user
accounts and passwords on each machine. Share out appropriate resources
and set whatever firewall you are using to allow the lan as Trusted.

Configuration

1. Workgroup - it is better to setup a same workgroup on all computers
2. Client for MS Network - must be enabled to access the network
3. File and Printer Sharing - accessed computer should enable the File and
Printer Sharing for other computers accessing
4. User Accounts - for users logon and setup permission
5. Permission - setup necessary permission for users to access network
resources
6. Protocol - TCP/IP is we want

If you run the Network Wizard, tell it that there's no Internet
connection:

1. On the "Select a connection method" screen, click Other.

2. On the "Other Internet connection methods" screen, click "This
computer belongs to a network that does not have an Internet
connection".
