I know this should be easier. Have spent loads of hours
on this site and others but still haven't figured it
out. I am going to explain this as detailed as I can. I
would really appreciate a reply from an MS guru...
Am networked peer to peer with both PCs (client being
Laptop) on XP home. The host PC is dial up modem and
both PCs have internel NICs. I ran the nework wizard on
the host first then on the client. All seemed to go
well. Can ping the client from the host but cannot self
ping. Can self ping the client but cannot ping the
host. What I don't get is MS created a network bridge.
In the Network connections in the client, I see an
Internet Gateway (with the connection name of my internet
connection) and it says connected. Under network bridge,
I have LAN, 1394 connection, and Network bridge (all
enabled) The same thing appears on the host under
Network Connections. When I click on view workgroup
computers in My network places (from the client) , I see
both PCs, when I attempt to access the host (by double
clicking), I get an error with a Bix X saying \\Home is
not accessible. You might not have permission to use
this network resources. Contact the admin of this
server.... I can not see the client from the host when I
click view workgroup computers.
Iwould appreciate your brains being racked....thank you,
Rach

I know it sounds simple but have you enabled sharing of a
folder and the internet connection on the host. If no
folder shared the computer just responds with that not
accessible.

Next ensure no firewall getting in the way. If running
any sort of firewall disable it. If no probs with
connecting you will know it is the firewall keeping you
out.

Hope this helps.

I am not offended by the simplicity of the advice...it
sometimes is the case. However, the host does indicate
that the internet connection is shared and the client
sees the connection from the host. I have removed the
Norton internet security and had already removed the
internet firewall fm the tools menu on my connection.
Have since rebooted and still cannot self ping!!! I
really think once the ping thing is dealt with...that the
network will work (everything else seems to be working).
Please throw any ideas you all might have at me! Thank
you,
Rach
