Please email me (e-mail address removed) with answer. 2 previous
answers could not be found as website keeps saying

I set up a home network. Everything works well except for
that fact when I try to print it will not work with the
firewall option check box chosen in the internet
connection area. All computers print fine when that
option is not checked. I have 2 desktops wired and 2
laptops with wireless on the network. Can someone help me
with this.
Thank you
Phil

What OS's are you running on your 4 machines?
How is your network set up?
I would guess that the firewall is protection from the
internet right, which of your machines touches the
internet that has the firewall running?
Which machine is the printer physically connected
to? Just a few needed questions.

By design, XP's Internet Connection Firewall blocks file and printer
sharing. It's for use only on a direct modem connection to the
Internet. Disable it on a local area network connection. I've
written a web page with details:

Computer 1 is the main desktop with win XP. It has a HP
d145 all in one. Others in network are,
2 laptops both with winXP. They are setup with wireless
connections (note: hardwired during original setup)
4th computer: Desktop hard wired running win98.
Network setup is cable in to cable modem, from modem to
Belkin F5D7230-4 router/access point then to both hard
wired computers and of course the 2 wireless.
My isp is with cox cable co i assume they have some sort
of firewall already. Also i had gone into my internet
connections and then my local area connections and
checked the box for the internet connection firewall. I
did this on the 3 winXP units first. Tried printing and
only worked once. I removed the ICF from 1 laptop then
the other and still would not print. I then remived the
ICF from main and it work.
I hope i covered all your questions in enough detail. If
any more please do not hesitate to write.
Thank you very much for your kind help.
Phil
