Attemping to network new Pentium 4 3:00 system using Windows XP Home edition through a Linksys Fast Ethernet 10/100 hub Model #FENSK05 to an older AMD Athlon running Windows 98SE. Both computers access the Internet, independent of each other.
Created a network floppy disk using XP Home and installed on the AMD Athlon running 98SE. I have configured both networks using the same workgroup name - MSHOME. Appears the only small success I've had is that the AMD Athlon will acknowledge the Pentium on the network however in the Network Neighborhood - no permission to access resource.
The new Pentium XP simply won't acknowledge another computer on the network.
Any clues as to what is happening here and and to correct this problem? The older AMD Athlon has a Linksys network card while the new Pentium has a different type of card installed.
I have the protocols in both computers matched as best possible with TCP/IP, NetBIOS, IPX/SPX/NetBios. I have also disabled the McAfee Firewall Network Filter running in the XP protocols.
Any help appreciated, Thanks.
