I have a new computer and an old computer running XP. I want to use the old
computer as a place for storage but also I want to access the old computer
remotely so I can pull files from it to save on the local computer at school
and also be able to save files from the local computer at school to the old
computer at home (remote). Is this possible. If so how can it be done?
Old computer is connected to a LAN through a cable modem.

As long as the old computer is running XP Pro, you'll be able to
accomplish this by using Remote Desktop connection.

Hi

Two steps to achieve this goal.

Step 1. Setting your system to be able to connect to through the Internet.

This page will show you few options: http://www.ezlan.net/myip.html

Step 2. Exchanging info. From a remote location through the Internet.

If you just want to up load and download files you can install windows IIS
with the ftp part on and use it for file exchange:

If you want a more elaborate control of you home computer from the outside,
and you have WinXP Pro you can use Windows Remote Desktop.

Set Up Remote Desktop Web Connection with Windows XP.-

Otherwise you can use Ultr@VNC free remote control program: Setting VNC: :
