I have a two-machine peer-to-peer network using XP Pro SP2. I also use
ICS to an ISDN line. My question is this: when I start the machines up
in the morning, some setting on the networking side causes the dial-up
to activate. As this is a bit awkward sometimes (due to the sharing of
the ISDN lines) I need to be able to turn this off, and only allow it to
dial-up when asked. Can anyone point me to where I can look at this setting?

Thanks

I assume that the ISDN line has a corresponding connection in the
Network Connections folder. See if there's a setting in that
connection's properties that enables/disables automatic dialing.

If you want the convenience of automatic dialing when you actually
want Internet access, identify and disable whatever is currently
causing the undesired dialing:

1. Determine which machine causes the dialing. Does it occur when the
host machine is running and the client machine is turned off? Does it
only occur when the client machine is turned on?

2. Temporarily install the free ZoneAlarm firewall on the machine that
causes the dialing. It will pop up an alert when any program tries to
connect to the Internet. It shouldn't take long to find the culprit.
You can un-install the firewall after fixing the problem.
