i just set up my 2 computers so they are on a network. i want to be able to
share files bewteen them. im pretty sure i have firewalls turned off. i can
see computer 2 from computer 1, but cannot see computer 1 from computer 2.
when i go to open the shared doc for computer 2 from computer 1, acces is
denied saying "i cannot acces them. i dont have persmission, contact the
administrator of this account (me)to find out if i have access permission"
but i can access internet succesfully from both computers....and am using a
belkin router, with the computer hardwired

my dilemna :
1. i cannot see computer 1 docs from computer 2
2. i cannot access computer 2 docs from computer 1, my access being denied

any help would be great
sorry if it sounds confusing computer 1, computer 2 ....

thanks

One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall. There are other possibilities too. Read this
article with an open mind.

If no help yet, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each
computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely:

I just had this problem myself a few days ago. After working on it for two
days finally figured it WAS in the firewalls. Make sure both windows
firewall and any third party firewalls are disabled, then try it. I finally
went into my firewall settings and allowed the IP numbers from each computer
on my network in "trusted ip's".
This solved my problem. I was getting the same notification you were when
trying to access the shared files on each of my other computers.. Also,i was
unable to set up a printer connected to one of the computers. All is well
now.
