One of the companies I support is starting to migrate from W98 to XP Pro (as
machines get too old to repair). There are 16 PC on a W2K AD Server.
There are 2 floors in the comapny with a 12 port hub on floor 1 which is
uplinked to a 24 port switch on floor 2 in a data cabinet with the server.
New XP Pro PCs on floor 1 are taking a long time to logon - I will take
advice from other threads in theis forum to cure that.
These PCs are experiencing data loss across the network - Word file saved in
user directory on server - re-opened later and it's corrupt and unreadable.
Happening with greater regularity.
They run a program called IRIS (accounting package). On W98 PCs its all
fine. On XP on floor 1 it wont run, even though I can browse to the network
share. On XP on floor 2, it runs fine.
Netgear Print server on floor 1 keeps dropping out - users unable to print.
I'm leaning towards a speed issue over the floor 1 hub or bad cabling joint
somewhere. There is also an extender in one part of the unlink cable where
the data cab was moved after the cable had been installed.
Any ideas out there ? I'm desperate as they were (naturally) expecting the
XP machines to make life easier - not impossible!
Cheers,
