Hi

I'm thinking of just giving up on networking

I have tried everything and still it does not work. I'm probably doing something wrong so if anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it

I have 2 PC's both working Windows XP, I have LinkSys DSL/Cable Router, and I have DSL Modem

I hae configured the Pc per instructions, and also the router as instructed

I cannot ping to my machine nor the 2nd PC

I cannot see my network places. Sometimes I do and most of the time I don't. Also I cannot share any files or printers

I have really tried hard to do this, but I just don't get

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Greetings ritz,

Make sure the XP firewall is disabled. It is only intended for direct
connections to the Internet. If you installed a third party firewall such as
ZoneAlarm, Norton, or Sygate make sure it is properly configured and not
blocking the machines. Ensure NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all
machines. Details here.

Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall

Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NetBT)

don't. Also I cannot share any files or printers.

And, make sure both PCs are set up as DHCP clients, with the router's
DHCP server enabled; that will force all PCs to be in the same IPA
subnet.

Greetings ritz,

Sometimes disabling a firewall doesn't always work but these instructions
should help you configure Norton Internet Security for your network.

How to configure the Home Network for NIS, NIS Pro, or NPF 2002 4.x

If you are still having problems, remove Norton Internet Security while
troubleshooting.

Eric,

Sorry about the this reply, but I was wondering how to configure my Norton
Internet Security to accept my other PC. Also, do I have to disable the
firewall on the other PC or just mine. MY 2nd PC only has XP Firewall.

ritz,

you already got good advice. If you want some more, please have

Greetings ritz,

It is probably caused by an improperly configured firewall that is blocking
the ping. Try configuring NIS and see if that fixes the problem.
