I have 3 machines running XP Home, which I've networked. They can
access each other, but only via IP address, not machine name. Also,
this is rather slow. Does anyone know the fix for this, or what I've
missed out on configuring?

Thanks,

P.

Start by checking the protocols stack.

And name resolution.

Finally, is NetBT consistently Enabled?

Thanks - adding a NodeType D word as stated and setting it to Broadcast
working. Any idea why this property is missing by default?

There has to be some "default". If you don't provide a setting, something has
to be chosen. So either "B" or "H" is chosen for you, depending upon whether
you have a WINS server. In most cases, either should work. In your case, that
may not be so. I'm not sure what "D" is, but I will research. Thanks for the
feedback.
