I just bought a Tablet PC which has a wireless connection to it. Therefore I
went out and bought a wireless router the DI-624. I connected my 2 desktop
computers to the router with RJ-45 cables and my Tablet PC uses the built in
wirless function to connect to the internet. Everything is great there until
when I want to be able to send files from one computer to another and to be
able to view all 3 computers on the network.

Please help!!

P.S. : Is it possible to share files with a mix of wireless and cables or no?

To answer your p.s. first, it is indeed possible to share files with a mix of
wireless and cables.

Please start by providing ipconfig information for each computer.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in Notepad, copy and paste into your next post.
Identify operating system (by name, version, and SP level) with each ipconfig
listing.

OK, let's do some detailed diagnostic work now. This will tell us what to check
next.

Take the following code (everything inside the "#######"). (Did I get the names
and ip addresses right)?

Copy the code, precisely as it is keyed, into Notepad. Ensure that Format -
Word Wrap is not checked.
Save the file as "cdiag.cmd", as type "All Files", into folder "C:\Windows".
Run it by Start - Run - "cdiag".
Wait patiently.
When Notepad opens up displaying c:\cdiag.txt, first check Format and ensure
that Word Wrap is NOT checked! Then, copy the entire contents and paste it into
your next post.

Do this from all 3 computers, please.

#######

@echo off
@echo. >c:\cdiag.txt
@echo Start diagnosis for %computername% >>c:\cdiag.txt
for %%a in (GEORGE-COMPUTER ELIE-COMPUTER FAMILY-COMPUTER 192.168.0.102

End diagnosis for ELIE-COMPUTER

There should be no problems seeing all three computers on your network. I
would suggest that if you have sp2 on any of the computers, the built in
firewall is preventing them from seing each other. To fix this, you can
either turn off the firewall all together or run through the home networking
wizard on each machine.

<SNIP Diagnostics>

OK, this is a challenge to describe.

We have 3 computers here - Elie, Family, George. We're running 3 distinct tests
(some redundant) against each of the computers - ping, name resolution, net
view.

Both Elie and Family can ping and net view George. Both Family and George can
ping Elie. Neither Family nor George can resolve address for Elie. Neither
Elie nor George can ping or view Family. Elie cannot be net viewed by either
Family or George. Family can not be pinged or net viewed by either George or
Elie.

Please go over the diagnostics and let me know if you agree so far.

We can rule out physical connectivity problems - each computer can ping, or be
pinged by, another computer.

Let's look at Elie and Family first.

First, firewalls on Elie and Family. Do either have now, or in the past, any
firewall (Microsoft or third party)? You will need a firewall on both, for
protection on a wireless LAN, so let's try to configure if possible. But first
identify any.

Elie and Family are WinXP, not SP2. Home or Pro?

Since both Elie and Family have problems with net view by each other computer,
let's look at anonymous enumeration on each, and correct if necessary.

Look at registry key [HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa], value
restrictanonymous, on both computers.
<http://www.microsoft.com/windows200...2000/techinfo/reskit/en-us/regentry/46688.asp>
<http://www.jsifaq.com/subf/tip2600/rh2625.htm>

The above articles refer to Windows 2000. Remember WinXP is NT V5.1, and Win2K
is NT V5.0.

Have you used the Registry Editor before? If not, it's a scary tool, but it's
pretty simple once you get used to it. Here are a couple articles that might
help:
<http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...home/using/productdoc/en/tools_regeditors.asp>
<http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/registry>

Just remember to backup the key (create a registry patch) for
[HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa] before making any changes, if
appropriate.

From the Annoyances article:
You can create a Registry patch by opening the Registry Editor, selecting a
branch, and choosing Export from the File menu. Then, specify a filename, and
press OK. You can then view the Registry patch file by opening it in Notepad
(right-click on it and select Edit). Again, just double-click on a Registry
patch file (or use Import in the Registry Editor's File menu) to apply it to the
registry.

Cheers,
Chuck

Run through MVP Hans-Georg Michna's network troubleshooter:

After you've done that, if you are still having problems repost to this

Hi, I have finally resolved the issue and beleive it was a firewall issue.
But there is still one prob George's Computer is working fine can see all the
computers including himself, Elie's Computer same can see everyone including
himself. The problem is family computer can see George and Elie but not
itself and therefore cannot print.

Hi, I have finally resolved the issue and beleive it was a firewall issue.
But there is still one prob George's Computer is working fine can see all the

himself. The problem is family computer can see George and Elie but not
itself and therefore cannot print.

Start by looking at the browser on your LAN, which gives each computer the
ability to "see" each other.

Make sure the browser service is running Elie and Family. Control Panel -
Administrative Tools - Services. Verify that the Computer Browser, and the
TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper, services both show with Status = Started. Disable the
Computer Browser on George.

After checking the browser on all 3 computers, and setting each one as
suggested, power each computer off. Power Elie and Family on, then George, and
check the browser as described next.

The Microsoft Browstat program will show us what browsers you have in your
domain / workgroup, at any time.
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=188305

You can download Browstat from either:
<http://www.dynawell.com/reskit/microsoft/win2000/browstat.zip>
<http://rescomp.stanford.edu/staff/manual/rcc/tools/browstat.zip>

Browstat is very small (40K), and needs no install. Just unzip the downloaded
file, copy browstat.exe to any folder in the Path, and run it from a command
window.

For more information about the browser subsystem (very intricate), see:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=188001
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=188305
<http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winntas/deploy/prodspecs/ntbrowse.mspx>

Please provide browstat information for each computer.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "browstat status >c:\browstat.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\browstat.txt in Notepad, make sure that Format - Word Wrap is
NOT checked!, copy and paste into your next post. Identify each computer by
name and operating system.

OK, the browser issue is synchronised. Family is now the master browser, but
appears that neither George nor Elie have access to its registry. Let's see
what can and cannot see.

Take the following revised code (everything inside the "#######").

Copy the code, precisely as it is keyed, into Notepad. Ensure that Format -
Word Wrap is not checked. Please verify that the ip addresses in FullTargets
are current.
Save the file as "cdiag.cmd", as type "All Files", into the root folder "C:\".
Run it by Start - Run - "c:\cdiag".
Wait patiently.
When Notepad opens up displaying c:\cdiag.txt, first check Format and ensure
that Word Wrap is NOT checked! Then, copy the entire contents (Ctrl-A Ctrl-C)
and paste (Ctrl-V) into your next post.

Do this from all computers, please.

HUH. Your most recent status said:
Elie's Computer same can see everyone including himself. The problem is family
computer can see George and Elie but not itself and therefore cannot print.

According to the diagnostic attached most recently, Family can't resolve names
of Elie and George, nor access shares on Elie (though it can ping both other
servers by ip address). Did you possibly post an old diagnostic file from the
test on Family?

If you find it convenient to load my new macro onto Family, I noticed from the
last run on George (where you did load the new macro) that I may have caused a
syntax error by an extra line break.

Revised macro:
