Hi there,

can some one help with idea on how to fix this problem i
have. i have two windows XP computers, one has an
internet connection with capacity for sharing.

i have networked both computers using a cross cable and
have enabled internet connection sharing. both computers
can browse the internet, but the problem is that they
both cannot communicate on the local network.

i tried pinging both independently, i got replies but yet
i could browse both either on the network places of both
computers, as a result can't have access to the shared
folders and files.

the printer is connected to the client/guest machine and
is shared, but i cannot print to it from the host
machine. guess its the result of the communication
problem existing with both computers.

i need a hand with fixing this problem, i would greatly
appreciate any info any one has to offer.

many thanks in anticipation.

sincerely,

Iyke

I'm having a similar problem. I have two computers on a
wireless network connecting through a wireless router.
Laptop is running XP Pro and Desktop is running XP Home.
Both machines access the internet fine, but the home
network is not working.

Desktop can see the network and itself on it, along with
all shared resources. However, Laptop gets the following
error message when trying to access the workgroup:

~~~
Mshome is not accessible. You might not have permission to
use this network resource. Contact the network
administrator of this server to find out if you have access
permissions.
The list of servers for this workgroups is not currently
available.
~~~

The sharing worked before I uninstalled and reinstalled the
network hardware/software on Desktop (I was having problems
with the card dropping the connection), but this problem is
occurring on Laptop.

Workgroups are the same, no dupe computer names,
file/printer sharing is enabled... I just don't know what
the problem is and why Laptop can't access the workgroup.

Any help? I tried the website that was linked in another
reply to this post, but there was no help there.

I simply uninstalled File/Print sharing on all machines,
then reinstalled it. Also made sure the IPX protocol was
installed. Rebooted the machines, and the network is
working fine.

What do you need IPX for?
