I'm getting a problem. I managed to get access to my files on my server
today, using: ftp under Internet Explorer. I can't seem to access the server
folders as a drive pointer, as with Windows 98. I really need to access as a
network drive because otherwise I can't get windows photo thumbnails to work
nor can I get my older Photo Explorer thumbnails to work.

I have no other working method of accessing the files.

I'm using XP Pro on my PC, connected to the server (running SME Linux) via a
CAT 5 crossover cable running at 100Mbps.

I tried to setup a network connection via the network connection wizard but
in the box where it says enter \\server\directory, when I entered
\\Zeus\\primary, it said "create folder" and wouldn't let me do it nor would
it access the existing folders. Browse has zero effect either. XP cannot
'see' my server yet Internet Explorer will ftp from it!

Help.

In your post, you said that you had entered "\\Zeus\\primary" as a path. If this was not a typo in your post, the resolution might be as simple as eliminating one "\" before "primary.

I hope that this helps

I typed correctly:

\\zeus\primary

it comes up 'network drive not found'

Well, Windows decided it wanted to download more updates. That went well.

Then I switched the server on and fairly shortly after, the whole system
went tits up and XP simply froze.

I did a hard reset and tried the suggestion that I set everything on XP to
auto. The system went tits up again and froze, necessitating another hard
reset.

I set everything back the way it was and the whole system froze again then
suddenly unfroze and displayed SME Server in the Workgroup.

I'm happy with the result but not with the process as it seems to defy
logic.
