Make sure all the Win95, Win98, and XP (and if you have it, W2K) computers
share a common username/password! XP security is much different from
Win98/Win95, closer to W2K in fact, so when you try to interoperate among
them, you start raising security problems.
On a domain, all the computers typically sign in using a common domain
controller, thus by definition, the username/password is available from any
computer in that domain (as a "domain" login). But for a workgroup, where
everyone has their own personal, "private to that machine" username/password
(or account), no such thing exists -- all computers are autonomous. When
you then start mixing domain-oriented OS's like WinXP and W2K w/
workgroup-oriented OS's like Win95 and Win98, the security features of the
former prevent access by the latter!
But there is a workaround -- since MS has a policy of assuming someone w/
the same username/password on two different machines (regardless of OS) in
the same domain/workgroup is in fact the SAME PERSON, you can gain access
across platforms. That's the trick, define a common account across ALL
platforms and your access problems will go away.
