I have three machines I want to network. The main unit is connected to my
cable modem with a NIC card. The other two connect via wireless. I can't seem
to get the three to reliably connect to each other. So, is there a tutorial
somewhere that addresses how to do this using the wireless hardware? I used
to be able to do it when all used NIC cards. All help to find tutorials
appreciated.

You get a warning when you open this file on my site. It's a rtf file of
wireless info for after sp2. It is a safe file, and unless you opened it in
something other than WordPad, it would be harmless in any case.

a wireless troubleshooter for SP2, go to:

Sorry, Mark, I should have said I'm running on SP-1. Haven't had the courage
to switch to SP-2 yet. Advice about wireless networking tutorial (for
newbies)?

Windows XP has an option to use an 'ad-hoc' network if the members of the
LAN have wireless cards. I think you will easily find the help and support
app's entry for that by searching for 'ad-hoc'

Two of the three have wireless cards, one is connected directly to the
wireless router that connects to the cable modem. Is this the best way to do
this?

Yes, I have a system running just like that, and it seems to function as
well as hardwired cards for me. I especially like the hardware firewall the
router makes possible.
