I've been trying to deploy XP to the few remaining Windows 2000 computers at
our organization. I would like to upgrade these computers, retaining current
setting, versus a clean install. Unfortunately, everything I've tried,
including MS SMS, winnt32.exe command line arguments and an unattend.txt
file all result in the target computer attempting to do a clean install
instead of an upgrade. Using a CD in the target computer gives me the option
to do an upgrade instead of a clean install. I've searched the MS website
without success for a resolution. Can someone help tell me what I'm missing
here?

Thanks,

Mark,

Thanks for the reply. I tried:

\\servername\shared_cd_drivename\I386\winnt32.exe /unattend

and it asked for a Product ID. I, of course, do have a Product ID but it
seems that if the upgrade asks for one it's not really unattended. Is that
the expected behaviour for an unattended upgrade? I haven't entered a number
yet, to see if it will actually perform an upgrade, as opposed to a full
install, as I was hoping to find a method for a true unattended upgrade (not
clean install).

Thanks,
Kevin W. Miller
