Hi,

I am planing on Formating one of my hard drives and I don't mind doing these apart from setting up the network cause it always goes wrong so is there a way to transfer the network onto another hard drive??

Thanks

' transer the network' what do u mean by this?

if u r relating to an image on a harddrive you can directly copy one harddrive to another one using a ghosting software. all files including an operating system will happily transfer over!

please describe is more...............

Right,

I don't want to copy everything over cause it has a lot of junk on it so i want to format it and start again but everytime i do format my pc my network allways stops working for a while so I was wondering is there a way to transfer the setting of the newtork i got at the moment onto the other hardrive so i don't have to worry about setting up the newtwork again.

In may be that this is not possible so i will just have to set it up again but i am trying to make it as easy as possible.

well im not too sure about your query directly

if u using windows xp there is a files and settings option. if u click on start, accessories , system tools and then files and settings transfer wizard

from this u can save your current settings and files on your pc. prehaps you could burn the settings to a CD and get them back onto your new version of windows xp

but if u r not using XP, im afaid my knowlegde of this subject has perished!

On the machine you have left working, after formatting the other one and installing brand new shiny operating system, use the Network Wizard. At the end of this you have the option to make a network setup floppy disk. Make it.

Then run the floppy disk executable on every other machine on your network.

Voila! You should have a network. Assuming all machines are running Windows of some flavour or other and not Linux or something.

Note: Dunno why, but for some reason, with my network it always seems to take a minute or two before the network settings take effect. It wouldn't do any harm to reboot each machine after setting up the network, all machines should definitely be linked then.
