Network Traffic Will Not Stop

i have a laptop on my network with windows xp pro, my
problem is that it is constantly gathering packets from
somewhere. the two lights in the corner by the time are
constantly lit up. i removed all unused services and
programs from the registry i even took out norton
antivirus and it is still constantly poling the internet.
please help

Hi Jason. Make sure you run a virus scan on it with the latest definitions, look in
Event Viewer for any clues, and run netdiag on it. You could also use netstat -ano or
use something like Fport to see if any unusual ports are connected. Fport allows you
to see what service/application is using a port. You may have to compare to a known
clean computer of like configuration as a reference. Another thing to try is to
install the personal firewall Sygate on it [free to try] which has some advanced
logging capabilities including at the packet level, plus the firewall will warn you
when an application/process is trying to do an outbound connection. There is the
possibility that the nic is bad or the driver is corrupt also . --- Steve
