i have a home net w/ 2 desk (xp, 2k), 1 laptop (xp) w/ a
belkin wireless router. I would like to conn the lapt
wired, w less. When I let xp set up the net only 1 conn
works- the other "the net is not accessable". I disable
the ws card when I connect wired. What am I doing
wrong? I also plan on taking lapt to school and using
w/ ws conn there with a firewall enabled. Help

I forgot to say that I do not have an internet conn. And
that I am running xp pro on both xps. I had the netwk
set up with just 1 conn and it worked fine both wired and
w-less just not both at the same time.

Jethro,

If you are asking for help with having 2 network connections on the laptop - 1
wired, the other wireless - and using the wireless connection only when the
wired connection is not active, this is easy to do.

In Properties for each Network Connection, under TCP/IP Properties - General -
Advanced - IP Settings, look for Interface metric. Currently, each is no doubt
set for Automatic metric. Disable Automatic, and give a "1" to the Wired
connection, and a "2" to the Wireless connection. Then enable both connections.
With both connections enabled, the wireless connection should become active only
when the wired connection is not complete.

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
