When I run the network setup wizard, I try to select my desktop as the host
for my network. I am directed to pick a descriptiomn that best fits the way
my network is connected . I am unable to select the description that
designates my computer as the host.

I receive an error message that informs me that, "Other computers cannot
connect to the internet through this computer. In addition to its internet
connection, this computer must have a connection to your network."

When I look at the workgroup computers the only one that shows is my
desktop.

I am using Windows home XP on the computer that should be the designated
host for two other computers.
I have the desktop that I want to designate as the host connected to the
internet via cable modem to PC through an ethernet card. I have a connection
from this PC to a wireless router. Therefore it looks like I have a
connection to the network.

Why does windows send me the error message?

Problem 2: One of the client computesrs cannot access the internet now. It
was working a month ago and has worked since I set this up. It has a
wireless adapter connected to the USB port. The device appaers to be working
properly. However, when I try to see the other computers on the workgroup,
not even the one I have the proble is seen. The network conncetion is
unavailable accccording to the network connection screen.

What do i need to do?

Hi, Roger. If I understand your post correctly, it would seem that you
are trying to set up Windows Internet Connection Sharing but you have a
router, which is possibly in the wrong place. If you have a router, you
don't want ICS. You want a network like this:

cable modem connected to router
computers attached to router with ethernet cable or a wireless
connection will be set up

Leave the wireless aside for the moment and get the ethernet working.
When you run the Network Setup Wizard, you will choose "I connect with
a residential gateway". Once you get the wired computers working, then
you can address the wireless. Here are some links to help you visualize
and set up the network.

Linksys networking information (you don't need to use Linksys hardware
of course, this just has some good pictures)
