Is my network secure? Setup: 2 xp pcs connected to cable
via Linksys broadband router. One via ethernet, the other
a wireless adapter. In order to create working network,
BlackIce firewall is disabled on one, McAfee firewall
disabled on the other. ICF disabled on both. I just want
to make sure that my shared folders and systems are
protected. I have Norton Internet Security not yet
loaded. What's the standard on protecting my system? I
would appreciate any help.

Your broadband router acts as an incoming firewall. It prevents other
Internet users from accessing your computers and protects your shared
folders.

Keep ICF disabled, since enabling it would block file and printer
sharing between your computers.

Running the BlackIce, McAfee, or Norton firewall program would provide
duplicate protection from incoming access. It would also prevent
undesired outgoing Internet access from your computers. If you
install one of those programs (and only install one of them!),
configure it to allow file sharing on the local area network.

Be sure to encrypt the wireless network to prevent other people from
tapping into it.
