I have a broadband connection using cable modem. Is it possible to connect a
cable modem to a switch?

Yes, to the switch's uplink port, but it would only be useful if you
get multiple IP addresses from your cable ISP. In that case, multiple
computers could connect to the cable modem through the switch, receive
individual IP addresses, and access the Internet independently. Each
computer would need to run a firewall program.

If you only get one IP address from your cable ISP, connect the cable
modem to a computer or to a broadband router's WAN port.

But I only get one IP address from my ISP. I cannot connect the cable modem to
switch? You said I could connect to a router. I don't have a router. I only have a switch.

Yes, you can connect the cable modem to the switch. However, I can't
think of a network setup where that would be useful.

Why do you want to do it?

What else would you connect to the switch?

Since you only get one IP address, that will only let one of the
computers access the Internet.

Sharing one IP address between multiple computers requires a broadband
router or a computer configured as an Internet Connection Sharing
host. A switch can't do the job.
